Department: Networks Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The role of the Network Engineer needs to be able to work in a small to medium enterprise size environment. This person must also have the capability of supporting the planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and optimizing all network hardware, software, and physical transport links while ensuring minimal network downtime. The ideal candidate should have 3 to 5 years of installing and supporting various network devices. The Network Engineer must be capable of independent work and minimal oversight. This is a full spectrum position where candidates will be expected to understand how to deploy, harden, and maintain production systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications: Required Education and/or Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or information technology or a combination of equivalent work experience, and 3 to 5 years of experience managing a small to medium size wired and wireless network. Preferred Education and/or Experience: A Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience managing small to medium sized networks, including wired, wireless, and firewalls. Experience planning and designing and deploying a highly redundant network. Experience working with vendors, campus IT partners, and various technical staff members to drive small to large projects to conclusion. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with various team members to design, deploy, and maintain various network design configurations; Work with various departments to understand scope and needs; Aid in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans; Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures, best practices, configurations, and backups; Patch management and system security; Capacity planning and monitoring; Capable and willing to carry out on-call support during the regular workday, off-hours, and holidays; Team player capable of working independently or with other network engineers, system administrators, and IT endpoint administrators; Manage day-to-day tier networking engineering and support; Log work and track service incidents in the centralized incident management system. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience planning, configuring, installing, and supporting both wired and wireless network environments; Knowledge of various firewall systems and configurations; including Next-Generation Firewall Administration; Hands-on experience troubleshooting networking devices; Extensive networking applications support experience with DNS/DHCP, VOIP, IPv4, and IPv6; Extensive experience with networking design, including TCP/IP protocols; Strong customer service focus and collaborative team member.
