Position Summary

The School of Public Administration at the University of New Mexico invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Public Administration specializing in Human Resource Management to begin in August 2023. Applicants must have a PhD in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a related field by date of appointment. For best consideration, all application materials must be received by April 9, 2023. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a related field by date of appointment (August 1, 2023).

Applications must demonstrate evidence of educational excellence and leadership potential for senior associate professor applicants. The new faculty member will teach courses for students in the Master of Public Administration, the Master of Health Administration and the newly created undergraduate minor in Public Service, supervise master’s students, and contribute to core, required graduate courses. The primary area of teaching interest is human resource management in the public and nonprofit sectors; secondary areas include program performance measurement, organizational development, public management, non-profit management, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Other secondary teaching areas that contribute to the enrichment of the School’s curricula are welcome.

The MHA program is an associate member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). The MPA program in the School is one of the oldest NASPAA-accredited programs in the nation. The minor in Public Service is the newest program in the School of Public Administration. The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and has over 33,000 students on the main and branch campuses. UNM is a Carnegie Doctoral Very High Research Activity Institution and a Hispanic-Serving Institution. Albuquerque is an ethnically diverse city with a rich culture and a location offering opportunities for outdoor adventure. The university is located within minutes of the Sandia and Manzano mountain ranges, which offer great opportunities for hiking, biking, rock climbing, and skiing. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

1.Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or closely related field by start date of appointment.

2.Evidence of specialization in human resource management in the public and nonprofit sectors.

Preferred qualifications

1.Demonstrated strength in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels

2.Demonstrated potential to develop research programs and publications

3.Demonstrated strength in human resource and/or performance management

4.Ability to mentor diverse students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels

5.Ability to contribute to other core areas in the School

6.Ability or potential for obtaining extramural funding to support research and teaching

7.Skilled at bridging theory/academic research to applied contexts

8.Interested in contributing to program development

9.A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities as evidenced through the submitted CV and/or letters of recommendation.
