Job Description Summary:
Researcher for the Biomarker Discovery Lab (BDL) that is part of the KU Cancer Center and the Kansas Institute for Precision Medicine COBRE. The Research Assistant will communicate and work well within a collaborative team under the direct supervision of the lab director or other BDL members. Will perform assays needed to support various correlative studies evaluation DNA, RNA, protein and cell extracellular vesicles that are. Generate and review data with the lab director and trouble shoot assays as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Education : Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field
Work Experience : Experience working with DNA, RNA, protein and cell cultures
Skills : Strong work ethic, attention to details, effective communication skills and ability to work independently with guidance from the lab director
Preferred Qualifications:
Education : Master's degree in biological sciences or related field
Work Experience : Experience with immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence
Skills : Western blotting and performing and developing ELISAs
Job Duties Outlined:
Run assays to support translational research on clinical trials and other basic science research projects.
Disseminate knowledge and train other lab members of novel assays that are of general interest.
Understand the basic principles of the instrumentation being used and be able to recognize problems with the assays when they arise. Inform the lab director to help trouble shoot.
Review all data with the lab director to confirm that the data are reliable, complete, and fulfill the study being supported by the BDL.
Work within a team with other members of the BDL and correspond collegially with other researchers and clinicians at the University if needed.
Assist the lab PI and lab director with writing manuscripts, grants, and preparing study budgets, if needed.
Participate in conference calls with study collaborators and weekly lab meetings.
Assist with overall maintenance of the lab within a collegial setting.
