Position Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, invites applications for a clinical track (non-tenure track), tenure track or tenured faculty position in small animal orthopedic surgery at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.
The major responsibilities for this position are to teach and provide service in orthopedics in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, teach didactic and laboratory courses in orthopedics to veterinary students, actively participate in training of surgical residents, and to develop a research program, which can be independent and/or collaborative with other faculty members. Proportionate assignments for each area will be based on the interests of the candidate in conjunction with the missions of the Surgery program and the Department. The service enjoys access to vanguard technology in diagnostic imaging, including a 64-slice CT scanner, 3.0 Tesla MRI, digital radiography, ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy, and a dedicated interventional radiology suite.
For all candidates, salary and entry rank will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and qualifications.
Additional Requirements
All candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree, have completed an approved residency of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, and have board certification or be eligible for board certification. Additionally, qualifications for each faculty rank being considered are as listed.
Clinical Track (non-tenure track):
Clinical Assistant Professor
Candidates should be board certified or eligible for board certification. Candidates should show evidence of a high level of competence and demonstrated promise of moving toward excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
Clinical Associate Professor
Board certification and a minimum of five years at the rank of clinical assistant professor, or comparable experience. Clear and convincing evidence of stature as a regional authority. Demonstrated excellence in clinical competency and documented excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
Clinical Professor
Board certification and at least five years at the rank of clinical associate professor, or comparable experience. Excellence in clinical competency and recognized at the national level as an authority. Documented excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, professional leadership, or practice and service. Candidates should demonstrate superior performance and be recognized by students or peers as an outstanding educator.
Tenure track or Tenured:
Assistant Professor
Candidates should show promise of moving toward excellence in the criteria appropriate to their work assignment.
Associate Professor
Board certification and a minimum of five years at the rank of assistant professor. Clear and convincing evidence of stature as a regional and emerging or existing national authority.
Full Professor
Board certification and at least five years at the rank of associate professor or attainment of rank of professor with tenure at an academic institution. Clear and convincing evidence of stature as a national and emerging or existing international authority.
To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

To be considered for the tenure track or tenured faculty ranks, documented research productivity commensurate with rank is desirable, and an interest in developing a research program is required.
