The University of Florida’s Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full-time Assistant Scientist to pursue a career in the Department of Pediatrics, Child Health Research Institute. This is a non-tenure accruing, single mission faculty level position.
The Research Laboratory of Dr. Michael McIntosh seeks a highly motivated researcher to join a team exploring the roles of novel infectious agents in diseases of unknown etiology or emerging epidemiology. Research emphasis is on using genomics, transcriptomics, capture-seq, and capture-MS platforms to study gene regulatory networks associated with gammaherpesvirus infections, and to discover new viruses at the human, animal, or vector interface in the context of immunocompromise or cancer. The position requires working with infectious human and animal viruses, viral vector production, molecular biology, cell biology, cell culture maintenance, and bioinformatics.
The ideal candidate should have experience in the following: Molecular Biology, LINUX/UNIX, Python scripting, MySQL, R, metagenomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, statistics, mutational analysis of human genomes, and Epstein-Barr virus research.
Job duties include:
1. Developing innovative research ideas
2. Designing and conducting studies to develop lead candidates for gene therapy
3. Collecting and interpreting data
4. Assisting in project planning and management
5. Submitting progress reports and peer reviewed publications
6. Presenting research results at scientific meetings
7. Training of other personnel
8. Participating in administrative and scientific meetings on and off campus
Successful candidates will need to have a PhD in a related discipline, and 4 or more years of experience working in virology.
