DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Aid Officer position uses intermediate professional financial aid concepts applied to a limited number of financial aid functions.
The Financial Aid Officer provides information and interpretation of standard policies, procedures, and regulations related to student aid administration. Provides individual counseling on routine aid issues and escalates non-routine issues to the supervisor. Provides alternatives and makes referrals to outside resources as appropriate. Additionally, the Financial Aid Officer determines and recommends adjustments for standard educational costs and/or family contributions used to establish students' financial need to successfully affect the recruitment, retention, and graduation of students.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Basic knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid. Demonstrated ability and understanding of the mission of the University and Academic Affairs and the integral role of financial aid in student recruitment and retention.
Basic knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Ability to apply knowledge of policies to individual situations. Demonstrated knowledge to independently understand, analyze, and interpret moderately complex financial documents and programs; including the ability to interpret Federal, State and University-wide regulations and to apply these policies to decisions, policy and procedures and convey their intent and requirements in an easily understood language, both orally and in writing.
Problem identification and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated skill to solve and foresee unexpected logistical problems and make sound last-minute decisions using past experience and knowledge. Ability to appropriately escalate non-standard issues.
Ability to calculate financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to learn and understand financial aid eligibility requirements pertaining to academic progress, citizenship eligibility, default and overpayment of federal aid, etc.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Demonstrates written and verbal communication skills. Active listening skills. Possesses customer service orientation skills.
Ability to assess processes and recommend improvements. Good interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with standard office software, internet, and email applications. Basic knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Experience using complex databases.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18). Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.
Job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory clearance based on background check results.
Available to work overtime during peak periods; some domestic travel may be expected.
Must be able to withstand the demands of heavy public contact
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 - $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 - $44.01
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
