University Bank is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Southfield, MI

Description

General Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is primarily accountable for the preparation of financial statements for the Bank and its subsidiaries ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and all regulations. This includes Board Reporting for all entities.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Transactions

  • Prepare and review reconcilements per the Master Account Reconciliation List
  • Post payroll settlement entries for bank and subsidiaries
  • Responsible for settling all monthly intercompany transactions
  • Responsible for monthly fixed asset depreciation and prepaid expense transaction processing for the bank and subsidiaries

Reporting

  • Complete financial statements per assigned schedule for bank and all subsidiaries
  • Prepare other reports for Board meetings including: ORE, Largest Loans and Deposits, Key Metrics, Liquidity report and budget variance
  • Responsible for reconciliation of Owned Real Estate properties
  • Prepare financial and operating metrics
  • Assist in the production of the annual budget and periodic forecasts
  • Review variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide financial analyses as needed
  • Prepare and send information to 3rd Party for ALCO reporting
  • Prepare ALM Supplemental Report for ALCO

Compliance

  • Preparation of the quarterly call report
  • Assist in providing of information to internal auditors
  • Assist in providing of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Assist in providing of information to examiners or regulators
  • Assist in compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Acts as Secretary of the ALCO Committee including scheduling of meetings, taking of minutes and monitoring policy changes
  • Attends Accounting team meetings
  • Schedules monthly financial review meetings with subsidiary presidents
  • Makes recommendations for potential improvements and department efficiencies
  • Remains current on Accounting Rules and Regulations

Other Job Functions

  • All other duties as assigned by management

Working Environment

Primary working environment is within an indoor climate-controlled office space. Employee may be subject to florescent lighting, dust, and other normal indoor-allergens. Employee will work in close proximity of coworkers and occasionally independently in quiet environments.

Requirements

Education, Training and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • At least five years of accounting experience at a financial services or mortgage banking institution: highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Maintain & foster positive relationships with customers and business partners
  • Complete all assigned training in a timely manner
  • Provide professional communication in both oral & written expression
  • Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management & analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly, Excel and Word
  • Experience with Budgeting Software
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • High degree of interpersonal skills
  • High degree of accuracy
  • High degree of dependability
  • High degree of self-motivation and able to work independently
  • Has thorough knowledge of and complies with applicable laws and regulations
  • Ability to manage highly confidential information
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Able to effectively problem solve
  • Need to understand balance sheet and income statement accounting.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Extended periods of sitting (at computer desk)
  • Complete repetitive tasks (including operation of computer mouse/keyboard)
