For this High School Building Substitute position, you'll be working for our high school in north Philadelphia called TECH Freire Charter School (9th-12th Grade): TECH Freire reimagines the college prep high school by blending state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on learning with the rigor of the time-tested Freire Schools liberal arts program to help each of our students truly thrive. We have a culture that demands excellence from our students while providing them the supports they need to achieve at high levels and prepare for college. 100% of TECH Freire's Class of 2023 were accepted to at least 63 colleges and universities and earned over $4 million in college scholarships and aid. What you'll doAs a High School Building Substitute, you'll ensure that students are working in a safe, productive environment so that student's learning is not compromised in the absence of staff. You'll be an integrated member of Freire's school community and get to know a wide range of our students and staff!
Responsibilities- Cover classes and maintain a classroom culture of learning and safety for all students using provided lesson/coverage plans.
- Monitor additional spaces as needed such as lunch, hallways, recess, etc.
- Model professionalism and overall Freire the values of community, teamwork, and a commitment to peace.
You possess an unwavering belief that our students are capable of success, and you both exude and cultivate our values of equity, love, critical thinking, and diversity. We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements- At least 1 year of previous successful experience working with urban youth
- Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do "whatever it takes" to get a job done
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
- Valid PA teaching certificate or bachelor's degree preferred
This position is part time, per-diem with a daily rate of $175/day.
