- Patrols buildings and grounds looking for; safety hazards to report/correct, security deficiencies (hazards, suspicious activity, trespassers, theft, violence, parking issues etc.)
- Ensures the security sensitive areas are secure and campus lockdown hours are observed and security lockdown equipment is functional.
- Maintains Hot-work process.
- Conduct fire and other emergency related drills.
- Completes construction/renovation safety inspections.
- Maintains and completes lost and found reporting and follow-up.
- Investigates unusual circumstances.
- Provides emergency response to security incidents or potential threats.
- Provides computer generated reports of all activity and calls received during shift.
- Assist with At Risk searches or potentially violent or aggressive patients and provide a safe environment to include requesting Strong Team response if situations escalate.
- Provides stand-by support for violent or potential violent situations.
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Education:
High School Graduate
Hazmat certified
Criminal Justice degree
Police Science degree
Law Enforcement certified
DOT Hazmat certified
Security Certificate of training
Experience:
Prefer one (1) year of hospital experience
Military honorable service
License(s)/Certification(s):
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Same as above
Expandable baton is optional defensive weapon. Officers choosing to carry must provide at least a Nonprofessional Permit to Carry Weapons and pass competency.
Obtain CPI/MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) Certification within 6 months of hire and maintain certification by-yearly
BLS Certification
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Multicultural sensitivity.
Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
Customer/patient focused.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
Pass competency training for use of defensive weapons; hand cuffs and pepper chemical spray.
Other:
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Will require overtime during situations when staff is needed to provide a safe and secure environment
