Unitek Learning, Inc. is Hiring a Remote Associate Dean

Overview

The Associate Dean of General Education is an essential and significant member of the College leadership. The Associate Dean for the division of general education is responsible for the overall operation of general education instructional and instructional support units. Working in cooperation with the National Dean and other college leaders, the Associate Dean provides leadership and supervision in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the general education instruction and faculty. Within the general education academic division, the Associate Dean is responsible for the maintenance, improvement, quality, and transformation of instruction and instructional support services, for implementing the general education instructional plan, and for advising on budget matters concerning the academic division.

The Associate Dean provides crucial leadership in pursuing the College's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

ACADEMIC PLANNING

  • Oversee the implementation and reporting of general education course outcomes.
  • Work with the department chairpersons in the preparation and evaluation of the schedule of classes within the general education academic division.
  • Oversee the utilization of the College Learning Management System (LMS) as a tool to deliver course content and maintain relevance and currency.
  • Partner with the department chairs to review and revise course syllabi and instructional guidelines.

DISTANCE EDUCATION/INSTRUCTION

  • Exercise direct oversight of established teaching criteria and procedures, curriculum design, and operation of general education course offerings. 
  • Maintain a diverse teaching methodology utilization to drive continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure that institutional effectiveness efforts (including course review) are implemented and integrated into all general education academic division instructional and instructional support units.
  • Assist with assessing academic faculty, programs, and student learning.
  • Act as subject matter expert for Distance Education Teacher Evaluation.

FACULTY

  • Lead and assist in the recruitment and retention of full-time, part-time, and per diem faculty, as well as staff personnel supporting the general education division.
  • Identify in-service training needs and create professional development opportunities for the general education division faculty and support staff as appropriate.
  • Ensure faculty participation in college activities and special events such as graduations.

LEADERSHIP

  • Promote academic integrity and create an effective teaching and learning environment.
  • Provide leadership in academic program review, accountability, viability, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Assist in providing fiscal leadership for academic programming and budget development.
  • Participate and/or represent the general education academic division in professional associations, accrediting agencies, government agencies, foundations, and local community groups.
  • Seek out and participate in leadership and professional development activities as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the faculty and staff of the general education division of the College utilize appropriate up-to-date instructional technology. 

STUDENT RETENTION 

  • Monitor/track student retention using academic reports. 
  • Implement data-driven student retention improvement strategies to achieve department benchmarks.

STUDENT RELATIONS 

  • Provide access to students for ongoing communication through scheduled office hours and appropriate communication methods (Email, teleconference, in-person)
  • Seek student feedback on matters of concern and exercise leadership to mediate conflicts with the expectation of resolution of issues at the department level.

STRATEGIC PLANNING 

  • Maintain effective communication among all instructional units and support units of the general education division.
  • Initiate, maintain, and assure teamwork among all college units by communicating the general education division’s instructional priorities.
  • Participate in strategic rollout initiatives regarding instructional technology and curriculum improvement plans. 
  • Assist the National Dean with academic instructional planning and prepare institutional reports as requested by internal and external sources.
  • Ensure academic program compliance with accreditation requirements of the College institutional and program accrediting bodies’ policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Mentor and evaluate academic faculty, instructional staff, and administrative personnel. 

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

  • PhD, EdD or similiar degree
  • Minimum of three years distance education teaching experience
  • Administrative experience with supervision of academic program(s)
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an administrative position
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications
  • Committed to diversity, as defined by state law
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and institutions
  • Leadership style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
  • Ability to utilize computer-based resources
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus
  • Experience in supervision, planning, budget preparation and maintenance
