The Senior Underwriter will analyze health benefit plan characteristics through case risk evaluation, and product pricing. They will utilize established underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies. This Senior Underwriter will represent and negotiates fees/rates and plan options to optimize cost-competitive health benefits plans. They will utilize pricing models to assist in economic analysis of new business and renewal customer.

This position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

Our office is located at 185 Asylum St Hartford, Connecticut. Employees will be required to work onsite and from home.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop comparative benefit packages, review claim experience, and apply underwriting guidelines to prepare renewal and/or prospect rates
  • Support Marketing in completing group experience retention illustrations and address questions on request for proposals
  • Analyze health benefit plan characteristics and assess risks around loss of clients
  • Utilize underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to the sales staff and district offices on new health care proposals

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Math, Finance, Business or related degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (creating spreadsheets and formulas), Microsoft Word (creating documents) and Microsoft Outlook (drafting emails, calendar management)
  • 1 years in healthcare industry
  • Ability to work during our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm onsite and from home. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements.   • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy

Connecticut Residents Only: The salary range for Connecticut residents is $60,000 - $106,700.
