Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage SLO/SME role for LINUX/UNIX platforms to provide professional and timely subject matter expertise. Serves as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues. Provide solutions/workarounds to the issues and concerns with sufficient testing and POCs working with peer teams, customers and leadership ensuring platform stability and security
  • Lead projects and initiatives and provide strategical and technical directions for hosting platforms/services (Mainly LINUX/UNIX related). Participates in the development of business strategy plannings
  • Define and publish the roadmap, standards and PADU ratings for the hosting platform and services (Mainly LINUX/UNIX related)
  • Manage vendor coordination, new technology/tools/OS testing, regular reviews of current/new configurations and provide decision makings towards platform stability and security
  • Define and Evaluate system specifications, standards, configurations, guidelines, best practices, working parameters and metrics (new standards and/or modifications/updates to the current standards as required) for various LINUX/UNIX OS versions, hardware/software/application/tools compatibility parameters
  • Manage exception requests by authorizing deviations from standards as appropriate
  • Provide incident/problem/service requests support. Performs complex conceptual analyses and analyze and provide solutions for performance issues, complex problems and develops innovative solutions
  • Manage EHS Product/Service ownership with EDR planning and documentation, Compliance, HAD reporting, AIDE updates
  • Capacity management with server counts, licensing analysis and budget planning, technical support to PLM projects. Generate and maintain server reports, inventories of the environment
  • Analyze all aspects of the existing LINUX/UNIX infrastructure and recommends modifications that will enhance system reliability, availability, serviceability, and scalability
  • Work with teammates, Customers/Clients, and other teams to identify and address systems problems and provide the appropriate solutions and ways for mass infrastructure implementations
  • Provide in depth consultation to other teams/application owners/customers. Translates highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audience. Provides explanations and information to leadership/customer/other teams on the most complex issues
  • Evaluate new developments and recommend appropriate infrastructure solutions, modifications, new technologies/tools as appropriate
  • Provide support during P1 incidents, war-rooms. Engage vendors with critical support issues, provide timely reporting of the high priority incidents to leadership
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the team, peers, other team members. Provide knowledge sharing sessions, vendor-lead presentation to Optum teams ensuring new technology and technical knowledge sharing
  • Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them. Provide escalation support for customers and peer teams
  • Collaborative working with other Optum teams, leading technical discussions and driving initiatives ensuring appropriate solutions implementations for mass infrastructures

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of Level3 experience with Red Hat Linux including Standalone/Physical and Virtual Servers
  • 8 years of experience in Administering RHEL (V6, V7, V8, V9) and similar RedHat/OpenSource products
  • 8 years of experience in Linux system administration, user administration, file/directory permissions, LVM, maintenance of software and system patches, TCP/IP concepts, NFS, NIS, DNS, storage concepts, performance tuning, HA software (GFS2, GPFS, and Veritas Cluster experience)
  • 5 years of experience with UNIX scripting and automation scripting
  • In depth knowledge and experience with storage addition and filesystem administration, cluster nodes, topologies, networks, and heartbeat concepts
  • Solid understanding of other flavors of LINUX such as AIX/Solaris/CentOS
  • Working experience with Ansible, Chef, and other automation & configuration management tools
  • Working experience with SAN attached storage, Satellite, Oracle ASM
  • Experience with managing and leading P1/P2 incidents, escalations resolutions with a large group of teams including customers and business owners
  • Open to learnability and willing to accept challenges with new technologies
  • Collaboration, Decision-making, Problem-solving skills and result oriented approach

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience working in an operational support role with an environment of 5000 LINUX servers
  • 2 years of VMWare ESX experience
  • Experience with OpenSource LINUX as Alma/Rocky
  • Healthcare Industry experience
  • ServiceNow or other ITIL tool experience
  • Knowledge of various monitoring tools, storage & backups technologies
  • Knowledge of Grafana dashboard
  • Experience of writing CHEF recipes, Ansible playbooks

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
