United Health Centers of the San Joaquin Valley is Hiring a Medical Records Technician Near Corporate, CA

Overview

The Medical Records Technician oversees patient health information records for our health centers. Plans, develops, coordinates, and supervises the health centers patient health records to insure that optimum security, completeness, accuracy, efficiency of patient health information and documents are maintained. Responsible for the release of records in compliance with legal requirements and to ensure that HIPAA violations are not incurred.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage patients' health information data.
  • Ensure paperwork is properly filled out.
  • Verify accuracy and accessibility of files
  • Maintains medical records operations by following policies and procedures; including document storage and retention guidelines.
  • Conducts audits by running document placement reports, to ensure that health care documents are filed in appropriate section of the electronic health record.
  • Interacts with all health center staff, including providers in retrieving patient medical records for the purposes of health care delivery.
  • Ensures medical record availability by routing records promptly and accurately to internal physicians, or other health care partners for the organization.
  • Ensures that outstanding or unidentified patient clinical reports are identified and filed in a timely manner following policies and procedures
  • Maintains filing system of patient clinical reports by using standard classification systems; filing documents in the electronic chart.
  • Provides response to medical record request of patients, hospital staff, law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies with proper ROI and consent, including approval from Risk Management as needed.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and protects health center operations by keeping information confidential; following release-of-information protocols.
  • Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Contributes to team effort by completing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Medical Assistant or Medical Office Administration certification is preferred.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent. Associates Degree preferred.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a health center and/or medical record department setting.
  • Knowledge of all applicable requirements including HIPAA for information management, retention, and destruction.
  • Familiarity with transcription file creation and management.
  • Ability to work positively with clinic administration, managers, and staff to facilitate optimum management of patient health information.
  • Adequate knowledge of computer hardware and software including standard office software to perform required job functions.
  • Electronic health record experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and push up to 50 pounds (on wheels).
  • Must be able to hear staff on the phone and speak clearly in order to communicate information to patients and staff.
  • Must be able to read memos, computer screens, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
  • Must have high manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, twist/turn.
