United Cooperative Services is Hiring a Billing Clerk Near Stephenville, TX

United Cooperative Services has an open position for a Billing Clerk in our Stephenville Finance & Accounting Department. 

Candidate should have a stable, verifiable work history, with an acceptable MVR. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen is required. This is a career job with progressive pay and an outstanding benefit package. This non-exempt position starts at $27.81 per hour. Positions are open until filled. United Cooperative Services is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

This position supports the Senior Billing Clerk and sends accurate and timely bills to members and determines when corrections are needed for meter reading field problems, meter test results, and bills. In addition, this position assists in analyzing and determining the application of balances to appropriate accounts.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Assists with planning and coordinating bill calculation and printing of electric, internet and phone bills and delinquent notices. Updates monthly billing message as directed by communications department. Assumes responsibility of bill calculation and printing of electric, internet and phone bills and delinquent notices in the absence of Senior Billing Clerk.
  • Assumes duties for drive-thru personnel (cashier/clerk) during any absence of the cashier/clerk, with assistance from member services department as needed.
  • Assists opening/closing of vault as needed.
  • Processing of variance and error reports, daily transaction reports and month end reports for electric and internet.
  • Assists in generating and mailing meter test letters and results to members.
  • Assists in reviewing and implementing billing corrections and adjustments. 
  • Assists in contacting member with results when needed.
  • Assist in merging meter readings to the AS400 from the Map Reading System.
  • Assists in analyzing reports for problems, meter exchanges, skipped readings and trouble messages. 
  • Initiates service orders and contacts Member Services accordingly.
  • Processes and reviews credit refund report generated for accounts payable.
  • Processes and reviews deposit list to evaluate for qualifying refunds.
  • Assists with entering account number changes as necessary and requested.
  • Assists in analyzing and investigating weekly billing variance for low and high usage and takes action accordingly to Field Engineering Representatives, Lineman or Engineering Technicians in the Meter Shop.
  • Aids and assists Member Services with questions concerning bills and provides assistance with oversight on new member account setup and pertinent/appropriate rate codes, tax codes, etc.
  • Assists with creating, maintaining and adjusting (when necessary) United’s billing calendar.
  • Assists with calculations and adjustments to member accounts for sales tax refunds.
  • Must have full knowledge and understanding of and the ability to administer and calculate all applicable rate schedules.
  • Assist with administration of and ensures accuracy of United’s prePower (pre-paid meter) program.
  • Assist with administration of and ensures accuracy of United’s billing as defined by United’s electric service agreements or contract rates for commercial and industrial members.
  • Assist with administration of and ensures accuracy of United’s billing as defined by United’s demand side management programs and distributed generation accounts.
  • Assist with administration of and ensures accuracy of United’s billing as defined by United’s Community Solar program.
  • Assist with administration of and ensures accuracy of United’s internet and phone billing as defined by established rate schedules for services and taxes
  • Weekly processing of bank and credit card drafts.
  • Assists with invoicing and logs the invoicing of contributions in aid for construction (“CIAC”) in iXp Work Order tracking with proper sales tax and directs members to send payments to the Member Services Representatives and notifying the Accounting Tech II. Works with other departments to ensure tracking is updated when CIAC is received and communicates receipt to appropriate Field Engineer personnel. Responsibilities also include following up with the membership when CIAC has not been made in a timely manner and documenting outcome.
  • Adheres to and encourages United’s safety policies and procedures and offers recommendations to your supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one to two years prior experience in a public contact position. Must have experience in telephone and written communications, general accounting, spreadsheets, billing and service orders and data processing.

Equipment Operated: Position uses office equipment and computers.

Abilities and Skills: Must be able to carry out a variety of activities which require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Position requires ongoing contact with member-consumers under various circumstances which require tact and diplomacy.

Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. Occasionally moves boxes up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment and drive-thru window.
