UMB’s mortgage team was established in 2016, when the decision to bring the mortgage product back in-house. UMB’s mortgage team has a wealth of knowledge due to it being comprised of many associates who have been in the mortgage field for 10 or more years. UMB’s mortgage team has a sales team and an operational team. Within the operational team there is a Mortgage Underwriter. The Mortgage Underwriter is a financial expert that assesses a lender's financial risk on a potential borrower and is ultimately responsible for approving or denying mortgage loans. The Mortgage Underwriter will investigate a borrower’s credit history, order appraisals, verify income and employment, reviewing debt-to-income ratio, confirming down payment and savings account information, and ensure all paperwork is submitted correctly based on current underwriting guidelines for loan approval. UMB’s mortgage team is very much like a second family to each other. Whether someone has a question about a process or needs help getting something completed, the mortgage operations team continuously strives to offer the Unparalleled Customer experience to our clients by taking a team collaborative approach to ensure deadlines and client expectations are met all the way to when our client has the keys in their hands to their new home. How you’ll spend your time: You will use analytical and problem-solving skills to identify any issues with documentation or processes of the loan and create solutions to those issues. You will use organizational skills to ensure the steps in the underwriting process are completed in an effective and timely manner. You will use interpersonal skills to connect and support our variety of clients to achieve the Unparalleled Customer Experience.
