UKH University of Kansas Hospital Authority is Hiring a Patient Services Associate - Part-Time Near Kansas City, KS

Position Title Patient Services Associate - Part-Time Bell Hospital COVID-19 and flu vaccines are required for all health system employees. Learn more. Position Summary / Career Interest: The Patient Services Associate is responsible for entering dispatch requests timely and accurately into the Hospitality Services computer system, which consists of Housekeeping Services, Patient Transportation, and/or Dining Services. The position is responsible for prioritizing transportation, housekeeping, and dining requests, and updating information as needed when requests/orders are given/assigned and completed or changes in status occur. The position provides rapid and professional response to all requests and inquiries from nurses, technicians, physicians, and customers, providing outstanding customer service to all callers. Responsibilities: Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Enters requests for Support Services in computer system timely and accurately; updates information as needed when requests are assigned, completed or changes in status occur. Keeps Support Services radio on and wears earpiece (if needed) at all times while at hospital, including breaks. Ensures appropriate radio etiquette at all times, utilizing appropriate ten-codes and statements in a pleasant tone of voice. Demonstrates and maintains a high level of professionalism at all times; handles information professionally, maintains confidentiality, safeguards files, and files information daily. Prioritizes requests for transportation to minimize patients’ wait and to maintain the schedule of transports. Prioritizes requests for custodial staff to work requests or rooms needing to be cleaned. Requests are dispatched immediately to the next available transporter and/or custodial staff. Decisions are based on priority of request, available equipment, and proximity, training and physical requirements. Notifies receiving department of changes in patient status; i.e., other procedures, isolation issues, etc.; notifies department of status for room cleaning. Follows all procedures based on duties being performed. Please refer to Addendum to job description for complete listing of tasks and responsibilities. Attends to patient’s comfort and safety during transport. Assists the department in the clerical aspects of preparation for patient meal service through accurate menu processing and patient with menu selection; solves patient problems; treats internal and external customers with dignity and respect; maintains telephone courtesy and patient confidentiality at all times. Processes Room Service customer orders, including patient/family initiated orders and those patients needing assistance. Determines which patients have not placed an order for that meal period, and initiate telephone or personal contact as appropriate. Makes necessary diet changes and keep room service order systems updated; follow standard procedures for diet patterns. Coordinates processing of A.M. and P.M. nourishment orders and print nourishment labels. Coordinates delivery of all tube feedings and oral supplement orders. Provides assistance with tray assembly as needed. Maintains all workstations in a neat and organized manner. Responds and cooperates with changes in workload. Assists with operations of Support Services for the University of Kansas Hospital to establish and enhance market-driven relationships. With the aid of the software, provides rapid and professional response to all nurses, technicians, physicians, consumer inquiries and appointment requests; ensures accurate appointment scheduling according to template guidelines; communicates with departments and primary care health centers for accurate and efficient scheduling Distributes messages and calls appropriately to departments and primary care health centers. Manages triage of all incoming calls to determine caller needs and manage the callers’ expectations with the highest level of customer service and efficiency by utilizing all electronic resources available. Identifies and manages equipment (computer, software, telephone, paging) outages and reports to supervisor on duty and/or manager via phone call or page if no supervisor on duty. *Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. *Note: These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
