Responsibilities

Heritage Oaks Hospital is part of the UHS family of providers which has been highly regarded as an integral part of the greater Sacramento and Northern California mental health system since 1988. Conveniently located in northern Sacramento, Heritage Oaks is a fully accredited, 125-bed acute psychiatric hospital offering a full range of individually tailored treatment services to adolescents, adults and senior adults, including treatment for substance abuse and chemical dependency issues with drugs and alcohol. Heritage Oaks is a Medicare provider in addition to contracts with most commercial health insurance plans. We are currently looking for an RN House Supervisor. The House Supervisor provides continuous nursing care in the assigned area(s) in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Hospital and within the framework of established policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing Services. As a key team member in the clinical area, the House Supervisor promotes a climate of effective performance through role modeling, willingness to learn and teach, and availability to patients and staff. Organizes, manages and coordinates nursing services on assigned shift as delegated by the Director of Nursing. Functions as representative for the Director of Nursing, in the Director of Nursing’s absence. The House supervisors are designed to improve communication, limit inconsistencies throughout the facility, and provide a safe and less stressful work environment. House Supervisors will help everyone work as a team because we should be part of the solution, not the problem.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing or baccalaureate program required; Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the State of CA Board of Registered Nursing required.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of clinical experience in psychiatric nursing, including Charge Nurse experience required;
  • Thorough working knowledge of Hospital, Nursing and HR policies/procedures, with demonstrated ability to use skills in clinical and managerial situations.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must have ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations;
  • Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions;
  • Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles;
  • Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures;
  • Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion;
  • Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads an work assignments on a constant basis;
  • Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Must have math skills to enable calculation of drug dosages and infusion rates.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON:

  • Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training, and annually thereafter.
  •  Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation upon hire and bi-annually thereafter.
  • Must complete all required mandatory training and inservices annually.
  • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; Tuberculosis screening is required annually or chest x-ray tri-annually thereafter.
  • Must be certified in Handle with Care training within the first 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Additional Requirements: Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Incumbent may be required to work variable shifts, overtime and flexible hours. Completion of Handle with Care class within 30 days of employment and prior to participating in a code green is required.
