The role you’ll contribute:

The Financial Counselor contacts and follows up with patients and guarantors to explain insurance coverage, secure

payments and set up payment arrangements for services provided.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Reviews verified insurance coverage for all new patients giving feedback to intake staff whenever necessary.
  • Reviews coverage and explains specific patient responsibilities such as deductibles, copays, etc. to the patient at the onset of post-acute services and requests initial payment.
  • Reviews new patient intakes daily, for all agencies, to identify accounts with patient responsibilities (deductibles, co-insurance or co-pays) and uninsured patients.
  • Develops payment plans including self-pay contracts and time payment agreements, based on patient's ability to pay.
  • On request, provides patients with an estimated quote of charges for services.
  • Reviews bad debt reports to identify delinquent accounts and resolve problem accounts, then assigns accounts failing to meet payment plans or establish financial arrangements to collection agencies if appropriate.
  • Contacts patients pending Medicaid approval to encourage participation with the application process.
  • Follows up on Medicaid eligibility with Advent hospital or Advent hospital eligibility vendors.
  • Works with Advent Health facilities to identify charity approvals for mutual patients.
  • Resolves statement problems identified by the patient and addresses them in a timely manner.
  • Assists patients with questions regarding their amounts owed.
  • Reviews monthly collection agency invoices for accuracy.
  • Reviews and monitors County probate reports for all hospice branches.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge regarding medical insurance's coverage policies.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Qualifications


Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

Knowledge and Skills Preferred

  • Technical knowledge is needed in the medical insurance pre-access field through at least two years' experience.
    • Such knowledge may be obtained through some professional training or college education or on the job training
  • Medical terminology and proficient computer skills required.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to have direct patient financial responsibility conversations with patients and their families.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelors and 2 years’ experience
  • Two years' experience in a medical office setting and financial assistance knowledge is required

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Experience in a hospital registration, pre-access or collection area is preferred.
