UHS is Hiring a CODER Near WESTAMPTON, NJ

Responsibilities

The Health Information (Coder) participates as an integral member of the records management team by ensuring the quality maintenance of patient information/medical records, within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and The Joint Commision standards for the quality of patient care. The Health Information Coder- has the primary responsibility of assigning accurate ICD-10-CM codes upon patient discharge (inpatient and outpatient). Communicates with physicians for any related coding questions. This position will also have Health Information Analyst responsibility for carrying out activities of the Health Information Services Department in the maintenance of all patient medical records.

Responsibilities:

  • Abstracts and enter Admitting/Discharge Diagnosis for inpatient/outpatient with ICD-10 diagnosis codes.
  • Enters correct ICD-10 codes within 24 to 48 hours to 4 days of discharge as per corporate, facility and 3rd party payer regulations.
  • Notifies Director of HIM for missing medical records or information needed to effectively meet the need of the department.
  • Complies with corporate standards of ethical coding and Queries Physicians appropriately.
  • Notifies Director of HIM not completed within required time constraints and any problems or unresolved issues.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Medical Records.
  • Maintains confidentiality of medical records.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations of federal/state agencies, TJC, and Medical Staff Bylaws regarding medical records Management.
  • Knowledge of computers, fax, scanner and copy machines.
  • Knowledge of 3M encoder.
  • Knowledge of Cerner or like electronic health record.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical records coding and medical terminology
  • Consult with management to ensure that patient records are maintained within licensing standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical records, ensuring their release to only appropriate and authorized authorities.

Qualifications

  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC preferred and/or other coder specialist certifications.
  • Graduation from a medical records program preferred; high school graduate or equivalent required.
  • At least one (1) to 3 years’ inpatient/outpatient coding and healthcare management/medical records experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of behavioral health hospital preferred but not required.
