Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health invites applications for the position of Therapist I Temporary (3PM- 11PM). Located in Norfolk Virginia, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute, residential, and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital is dedicated to providing high quality care to children, adolescents and their families. We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need, using quality, evidence based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

 

Reporting to the Director of Social Services or designee, incumbent provides individualized acute and residential program specific goals and objectives for child and adolescent patients/residents based on and defined treatment plans, and established program philosophy. This position pays $25.90 per hour.

 

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Implements goals and objectives for child and adolescent residents/patients, based on established program philosophy, and resident/patient treatment plan.
  • Provides education and direction to families of assigned residents/patients, to help the families understand the nature of the treatment issues, and develop the skills necessary to effectively monitor them upon their transition home.
  • Provides psycho educational groups which assists child and adolescent residents/patient in achieving specific life goals.
  • Maintains a high standard and quality of documentation of all casework, consistent with facility policy; prepares written progress reports, including details involving significant incidents.
  • Assist in the development of relationships with referral sources and families; works with referral sources to develop discharge and aftercare planning.
  • Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals; fosters effective communication with staff members, and champions dialogue in addressing concerns.
  • Serves as a role model for child and adolescent patients/residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.
  • Interprets facility and departmental policies and works cohesively with department in the attainment of organizational objectives.
  • Works cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve and exceed quality patient care.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, residential treatment, clinical science/pathology, and psychiatric disorders.
  • Demonstrated ability in gathering and analyzing basic and critical data for purposes of assessing and evaluating mental illness and substance abuse in child and adolescent populations.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical/Counseling Psychology or Social Services related discipline required, licensure preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of discharge planning, case management, group leadership skills, crisis and behavior management, and family therapy theory and practice preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
  • Must be able to handle multiple competing task, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency.
