Assumes responsibility and accountability for providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of performance components affecting cognition, swallowing, speech, language, reading and overall function. To provide goal-oriented treatment to facilitate maximum level of independence to clients suffering from disability, disease or injury. The speech language pathologist organizes, conducts, and elevates medically prescribed speech therapy programs to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of a body part; helps patient’s reach his/her maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within his/her capabilities. Directs and supervises interns, externs, and clinical fellows. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead. Verbalizes stroke alert process. Consults and assessments/reassessments will be performed and documented within 24 hours of admission or when feasible once patient is medically stable. Maintains currency in stroke knowledge by completing the annual 4 hours online training.
