Responsibilities

Northwest School of Innovative Learning (a UHS facility):

Northwest School of Innovative Learning, is a behavioral, therapeutic and academic learning program designed for students from kindergarten through high school who are unable to successfully navigate traditional school settings. We offer a comprehensive and therapeutic program that helps meet the academic, special education, and behavioral health needs of students from school districts throughout the Puget Sound region. A full academic curriculum is individually tailored, along with therapeutic treatment needs.

Position Summary:

The Director of Special Education Services functions as an active part of the management team and treatment team, providing continuous organization, supervision, interaction and role modeling to education staff and to students. Provides leadership, direction, and assists with program management. This position works under the direct supervision of the CEO/AA. Directs programming to reflect requirements of IEP’s/districts/OSPI and assures documentation and programming accurately reflects present levels and needs of students. This position has oversight of all school facilities and is responsible for the continuous growth and development of programming.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Human Services from an accredited college or university. Teaching/Mental Health Certification. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of related experience, with knowledge of mental illness, special education, management, marketing, preferred.

Licensure: Must maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license. Certification as a Teacher (Special Education Endorsement), Social Worker, Counselor, or similar preferred.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR and First Aid certification. Successful completion of Handle With Care (HWC) and verbal de-escalation training. Successful completion of orientation training. May be required to work flexible hours. May require some travel. Knowledge of current professional Education practice and techniques applicable to the care of severely behaviorally disabled students. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the same. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with other staff and management. Analytical skills necessary to observe educational practice as well as observe and interpret human behavior accurately. Ability to organize and carry out responsibilities efficiently. May require some travel.
