UHS of Delaware, Inc. is Hiring a Registered Nurse- First Assist Full Time Near CORONA, CA

Responsibilities

Serves as a Specialized Registered Nurse who provides the surgical team with assistance within the Operating Room and other similar settings. Assists the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. Functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. Functions within the state laws regarding surgical assisting and state nursing practice act. The Certified RNFA does not concurrently function as the Scrub Nurse.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

The RNFA may assist the surgeon by performing technical functions during surgery, including intra-operative retraction, homeostasis, tissue manipulation, and wound closureThe function of the Registered Nurse (RNFA) is to provide direct patient care as part of the perioperative role, by acting as first assistant to the surgeon during operative procedures The RNFA will be recorded under "Assistant" on the operative record and should be dictated by the primary surgeon on the operative report. The RNFA will perform first assisting under the direct supervision of the primary surgeon. The RNFA will immediately communicate any patient care issues verbally to the surgeon.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area (BSP), circumference and volume.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCEMinimum three years experience as both scrub and circulating nurse

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program.Either successful completion of a RNFA course jointly approved by the Chief of Surgery and the Director Surgical Services or certification as a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) by the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN).

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

Registered Nurse with current California RN license.Current BLS certification.Current ACLS certification Current PALS certificationCNOR Certified Nurse First Assist (CRNFA) by the Competency and Credentialing Institute preferred
