Responsibilities

Oak Plains Academy (a UHS company)

Located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, Oak Plains Academy offers psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents ages 5–17, struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. The Oak Plains Academy campus features a full-size gymnasium, separate academic building, and four dormitories. Our wooded campus provides an excellent opportunity for outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, softball and basketball. 

Oak Plains Academy is seeking a Certified Recreational Therapist with a passion for working with children with mental health, emotional, and behavioral issues. The ideal candidate is someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of the youth in our care and seeks a challenging environment with career development opportunities. Residents receive an individualized treatment plan, geared to meet their personal needs. A professional team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, nurses, and teachers work closely with each resident to assist them to achieve there therapeutic and education goals.

The Certified Recreational Therapist is responsible for overseeing the therapeutic activities program. The Recreational Therapist will ensure the program is appropriate to the needs and interest of patients and is directed toward restoring and maintaining optimal levels of physical and psychosocial functioning. The Recreational Therapist will actively participate in treatment planning and implementing activity services for our patients, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy / Leisure Studies; a Certified Recreational Therapy Specialist (CTRS), or certification eligible Recreational Therapist.

Certified as CTRS in the state of Tennessee or scheduled to take the test.
