Qualifications

SUMMARY

Provides and consults to program staff relating to patient treatment.

  • Provides psychiatric evaluation and treatment services
    • Performs initial psychiatric evaluations and for patients upon admission
    • Performs ongoing psychiatric evaluations—daily while in detox level of care; 2x/week in rehab level of care
    • Prescribes medications as required
    • Participates in treatment team meetings to discuss psychiatric and substance use needs
  • Provides medical evaluation and treatment services
    • Performs routine history and physical exams and medical follow up treatment of patients at admission and ongoing, completing documentation of all evaluations and treatment visits on the day of the session and according to documentation requirements.
    • Ensures timely meetings with patients and timely documentation of related notes.
    • Practices according to industry standards for psychopharmacologic treatment.
    • Communicates with attending physicians, psychiatrists, nursing staff etc. regarding status and treatment of the patient.
    • Provides consultation on matters regarding medical care, standards of care, and surveillance.
  • Performs responsibilities according to clinical and timeliness guidelines, and assimilates and applies performance feedback as directed by Medical Director.
    • Meets quality expectations of accuracy, completeness, and is responsive to feedback.
    • Meets timeliness expectations of completing work as scheduled, demonstrating self-paced performance and adjusting priorities as needed.
    • Professionally and ethically relates to patients and peers at all times.
    • Participates in weekly staff and clinical meetings.
    • Participates in after hour on-call schedule.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Considerable knowledge of contemporary treatment approaches to integrated care.
    • Ability to demonstrate understanding of a variety of models and theories of addiction, MI, and related issues;
    • Knowledge of philosophies, practices, policies and outcomes of models of treatment, recovery, relapse prevention, and continuing care for co-occurring mental and substance use disorders.
    • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into practice setting.
    • Be in good standing with licensing board.
    • Current malpractice insurance required.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Licensed M.D.
    • ASAM Certification Preferred
    • Expertise treating patients with mental illness and substance use disorders—co-occurring disorders
    • Board eligible or Board certified

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during work hours.
    • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 30 pounds.
    • Ability to be physically mobile, climb stairs, traverse the campus on uneven, hilly terrain.
    • Position requires work on the computer requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.
    • A current, valid driver’s license and a clean driving record is required for use of company vehicles and possible business travel.
    • Due to the 24/7 operational demands, must be available after normal working hours and on holidays to manage emergencies that may arise.
