UHS of Delaware, Inc. is Hiring a Psychiatric Technician - 1201 Near WASHINGTON, DC

Responsibilities

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PIW has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in the safe, historical Tenleytown neighborhood, PIW is one mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop and within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for providing direct patient care to adolescents from the ages of 5-18 years of age and adults ages 8-65 that is congruent with the philosophy and standards of practice defined by the Nursing Department. Responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of the registered nurse. Supports and maintains the program philosophy and structure. Participates in group meetings and is responsible for leading task groups.

Qualifications

  • Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and units as necessary, and ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge of principles of psychology isuseful
  • Limit-setting, responding to adults and adolescents in a caring, mature manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary
  • Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Psychology or Social Sciences is preferred
  • One or two years experience working in a job related field in a clinical/healthcare setting
  • Previous experience with emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, or physically disabled persons preferred
  • CPR certification, First Aid Certification
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. - 80-90% of the time, the incumbent is standing, walking, kneeling, or reaching while working with patient
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical restraint of patients 
  • Candidates must meet the company’s hiring criteria to include a pre-employment verifications, background investigation and drug test.
