UHS of Delaware, Inc. is Hiring an Occupational Therapist Near ENID, OK

Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation, planning, direction and administration of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. He/she administers treatments as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. He/she assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Provides supervision for licensure for Occupational Therapy Assistants.

  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge and skill experience with a variety of diagnostic groups including, but not limited to, the following: orthopedic and arthritis related conditions; neurological groups including CVA, TBI, degenerative neurological diseases, SCI; generalized weakness as a result of medical or surgical conditions including DM, ESRD, amputation, COPD, CHF, and CABG.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of normal growth and development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (adult, geriatric) and diagnosis of patient services to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Administers evaluation tools according to established protocols; utilizes non-standardized probes for additional assessment as warranted.
  • Demonstrates the ability to evaluate patient’s and establish an appropriate plan of care, adapting the plan of care to the individualized needs/goals of the patient/caregiver.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of IRF-PAI (Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument) and the Care Tool and their application in payment system for CMS.
  • Assesses patients pain using hospital approved measurement tools and adjusts treatment considering behavior, location, severity and frequency.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide the proper assistance, verbal/tactile cueing et.al necessary for optimal performance and patient outcome.
  • Effectively treats caseload with ability to appropriately judge required level of assistance patient will need to achieve set goals with gender/age specific criteria in mind.
  • Demonstrates ability to choose appropriate treatment method, i.e. individual and/or group sessions to best achieve discipline specific treatment goals.
  • Demonstrates the ability to instruct patients and/or significant others in treatment procedures, home programs, orthotics/prosthetics, safety management, and special equipment using patient’s preferred method of instruction (written, oral, auditory, combination)
  • Demonstrates the ability to use time effectively by managing therapy schedule independently and delegating an appropriate portion of treatment to trained support staff as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform home assessment and communicate results to patient/caregivers.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform/instruct patient in ADL (Activities of Daily) including but not limited to bathing and dressing and use of equipment as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of management of patients with maladaptive behaviors.
  • Short and long term goals are established that are comprehensive, realistic and measurable, involving the patient and/or family based on an individualized patient evaluation.
  • Occupational Therapy goals and treatment plan completed and updated regularly.
  • The record is complete, detailed and clearly relates patient level of function in quantifiable terms, treatment methods and strategies, patient response to treatment. Includes, but not limited to, evaluations, daily, weekly, team notes, Care Tool and education activities. Documentation is completed in a timely fashion according to policy.
  • Daily billing completed, including accurate reflection of beginning and ending treatment times in medical record.
  • Makes recommendations for referrals to other professionals/agencies as indicated based on plan of care.
  • Patient/Family education is documented in designated and appropriate areas with Home Program provided as needed.
  • Discharge information including home exercise programs for patient/discharge destination is clear and written in “layman’s” terms for patient/family to understand.
  • Demonstrates compliance with documentation of “3 hour rule” and appropriate exceptions.
  • Communicates with patient/family regarding role of Occupational Therapy, expectations of patient, findings of assessment/treatment and seeks input regarding goals of treatment.
  • Effectively communicates with COTA regarding patient’s performance, changes in medical condition, goal attainment, etc. according to Oklahoma Occupational Therapy Act and facility policy.
  • Therapy and patient communication boards are updated according to departmental protocol.
  • Effectively communicates findings of Occupational Therapy assessment and treatments with team to support interdisciplinary approach to care.
  • Provides in-services to staff on topics pertinent to rehabilitation as requested to contribute to program improvement.
  • Assists with training, supervision, and coordination of staff efforts with assistants, students and techs.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.
  • Eligible for or holds current Occupational Therapist License to practice in the State of Oklahoma required.
  • BLS required. First Aid certification preferred.
  • Successful completion of National Registry Examination by the National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Proof of valid NBCOT certification from Oklahoma or eligibility for certification in Oklahoma
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience outpatient therapy or acute experience preferred.
  • Recent graduates who have applied for the licensure examination may be considered for provisional appointment.
  • Must successfully complete the Pre-employment Assessment.
  • • Basic computer skills required.
