Mental Health Technician

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is currently looking for a Mental Health Technician to join our team of dedicated professionals.

Who We Are

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is a 156-bed licensed, private psychiatric facility located on 13 acres in Greer, SC, conveniently close to I-85. Specializing in psychiatric programs and substance use treatment, inpatient programs are offered for adolescents, adults and senior adults. There are also intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for patients with psychiatric and co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a full-time Mental Health Technician who will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and assistance with activities of daily living. The Mental Health Technician must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults.

The Mental Health Technician will also:

· Assist the unit leadership in the overall management of the milieu with an aim toward creating and maintaining the most therapeutic environment possible.

· Maintains safety and security of the patients, visitors and staff through close observation and monitoring of patients, maintaining optimal physical proximity, remaining alert at all times, and using analytical forethought to anticipate potentially volatile or unsafe situations and proactively intervene.

· Observes patient behavior and notifies Unit Director, Therapist and appropriate nursing staff of pertinent information and documents in progress notes.

· Serves as a role model for patients by consistently displaying positive and appropriate attitude, behavior, language, attire and appearance, etc.

· Assists with physical interventions with patients under the direct supervision of the Unit Director and/or lead crisis response team member.

· Documents according to established policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Certification as a nursing assistant or patient care technician and/or familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred. In the absence of any of these qualifications upon hire, employee must demonstrate the ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within a reasonable time frame via the organization’s orientation and training program.
