Responsibilities

The Horsham Clinic is seeking a dynamic and talented Mental Health Tech.

The Horsham Clinic is a 206-bed, private behavioral healthcare facility located on a beautiful 55-acre suburban campus in Montgomery County. We are minutes from Philadelphia and serve patients and families from Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Horsham Clinic provides comprehensive behavioral health services to children, adolescents, adults, and their families. In addition to our main campus in Ambler, we have two satellite partial hospitalization programs in Chester County and Delaware County. Our program diversity reflects the needs of the community and the expertise of our board-certified Medical Directors that offer a combined 40-year of tenured experience at Horsham Clinic.

The Mental Health Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, adults, older adults and dually diagnosed patients. Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, and CPR training.  Must be willing to work with children, adults, adolescents and dual diagnosed patients.

  • Perform search for contraband items
  • Ensure patients and environmental safety per monitoring processes, e.g., Unit Safety and Patient Rounds.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for hospital personal, patients and families
  • Provide Registered Nurse with patient information to assist him/her in daily evaluation and planning of patient care.
  • Under the direction of the licensed professional, assist in provision of care as indicated in the interdisciplinary treatment/recovery plan.
  • Closely monitor patients on special observation status; report and record behavioral changes
  • Assist patients with ADL’s as needed
  • Knowledge of principles and practices relevant to patient care activities with ability to plan, direct, and monitor others activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Highly Developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with common computer based applications such as electronic mail, word processing and various databases
  • Utilize effective communication skills in interacting with all consumers, including patients, their families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist in Orientation of new personnel.
  • Develop a rapport with coworkers hat is conductive to effective teamwork and patient care.
  • Take responsibility for personal education, growth and development; ensure compliance with all training and education requirements pursuant to this position
  • Know and comply with all confidentiality laws and regulation, e.g., HIPPA

Special Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to stand and walk. Employee must be able to access all areas of the hospital. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Frequently need to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must be able to physically handle assertive/combative patients. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Vision and hearing within normal limits. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud. The physical and mental demands may be strenuous at times. There may be long periods of standing, or walking, and medium to heavy lifting. The work is performed in client areas, therefore, there exists a potential for exposure to environmental hazards and contagious diseases, exposure to crisis/emergency situations, and exposure to all infectious diseases including HIV/TB/Hepatitis, blood and body fluids and needle sticks.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or recognized GED required, Associates or Bachelors preferred CNA, CMA, or comparable education, experience and/or certification required. Undergraduate courses in healthcare related field or completion of one year in nursing school preferred. Current CPR Certification. First aid certification required.
  • 2 or more years of experience in addiction or behavioral health setting
