Responsibilities

Summit Oaks Hospital, a 126 bed, private acute care hospital and chemical dependency treatment center, located in suburban Summit, NJ, fully accredited (by the Joint Commission), has been providing quality health care to adult, child and adolescent northeastern USA residents since 1902. The Hospital has been recognized in U.S. News & World Report, as one of the nation's best behavioral health hospitals.

The Medical Coder/Analyst participates as an integral member of the records management team by ensuring the quality maintenance of patient information/medical records, within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and JCAHO standards for the quality of patient care.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a medical records program preferred; high school graduate or equivalent preferred. The specialist must be an accredited health information technician (RHIT), registered record administrator (RHIA), and/or coder specialist (CCS or CPC) or possess equivalent training in coding systems, advanced medical and anatomical terminology, human physiological theory, and reimbursement principles.

Experience: At least two (2) years experience in health care information management/medical records and a thorough knowledge of medical terminology required. 

Additional Requirements: Knowledgeable of HIM and Ancillary computer applications: Chart Management, Chart locator, Encoder/Grouper, Abstractor, Dictation/Transcription, and Laboratory, Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
