Responsibilities

Aiken Physicians Alliance offers Primary Care, Cardiology, General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pulmonology and Urology Care. You will work with a Care Team of physicians, advanced practitioners and staff providing compassionate and quality care. Aiken Physicians Alliance is affiliated with Aiken Regional Medical Centers, a 273-bed acute care facility offering a comprehensive range of specialties and services.

Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. It also provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. Through continuing growth, IPM operates in 12 markets across six states and the District of Columbia. Position Summary: Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Medical Assistant position s responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties and assisting with the overall workflow of the physician/medical practice.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with daily clerical operations, including answering multi-phone lines and making copies of documents as necessary.
  • Accurately file patient charts; including scanning documents into files as necessary.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are kept stocked and clean; also ensures that equipment is kept clean.
  • Confirms and schedules patient appointments.
  • Maintains organized filing system for all office/billing documents.
  • Distributes referrals as necessary to physicians and insurance companies; keep proper documentation of referral requests/responses in patient charts.
  • Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
  • Phone/faxing patient prescriptions as necessary.
  • Schedules mammograms, BMDs dietician appointments, cardiology testing, and radiology testing for patients, and completes all appropriate paperwork.
  • Labels patient specimens and completes lab slips accurately; separates lab slips monthly.
  • Contacts patients with lab results and sends letters to patients as necessary.
  • Accurately performs clinical duties to include triaging patients, checking patient vitals, administering injections and venipunctures, and prepping patients for physician exam.
  • Accurately performs a variety of clinical testing, including ekg, holter monitors, PFT, stress test, PAP, ear irrigations, 02 sats, vision/color charts, and urinalysis/hemocult tests.
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete patient information forms prior to physician meeting with patient; assist physician with chart as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant certificate or minimum of two years experience/on the job training.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred. CPR/BLS required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general office procedures.
