Responsibilities

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance, construction, and repairs; to develop and maintain a sound and practical preventative maintenance program. The Maintenance Technician actively works to support the facility mission of providing an environment of safety so that the residents feel empowered to heal the wounds of the past and build a foundation of hope for the future.

Our team actively engages youth in a teamwork-focused, trauma-informed care, and pro-social model designed to provide each resident with the necessary skills for a safe and productive life. Youth Care Specialists serve as positive role models and work as part of a team of educators, clinicians, and nurses to support each youth as he or she works to meet individual goals.

Foundations for Living is a subsidiary of UHS (Universal Health Services, Inc). UHS owns and operates 241 facilities, including 25 acute care hospitals, 216 behavioral health facilities and three surgery centers in 37 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom, and employ more than 68,000 people.

Foundations for Living is an 84 bed (14 males and 70 females) secure residential treatment facility for youth addressing mental health and substance abuse issues. Located on the edge of Mansfield, Ohio, in a 14 rolling, wooded acres rural setting, Foundations for Living has easy access to I-71. Foundations for Living is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (ODMHAS) and accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). Foundations for Living offers individual, group, and family counseling to our residents.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

    Some experience in the general maintenance field

  • Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid State Drivers License with appropriate endorsements

    Certified in CPR and First Aid

  • Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, technical terminologies and assist in proposals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Elementary use of computer spreadsheet programs.

  • Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  • Therapeutic Hold
  • The employee may occasionally be required to physically restrain clients, using authorized hold procedures as a last resort for protection of resident and staff.

  • Work Environment
  • The work environment for this position is a residential facility. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electric shock; and risk of vibration. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-destructive behaviors. The employee may be subject to occasional local travel as required by facility needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
