The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for administering medications safely and effectively working under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, working as a team to promote a safe and therapeutic environment with patient safety as the priority. Duties and responsibilities of a LPN may include but are not limited to:

  • Dispenses medications to patient population as indicated in physician's orders.
  • Obtains consent for medication from patient's parent and/or guardian
  • Assists in responsibility for creating, maintaining and managing a therapeutic milieu within the treatment program to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates age specific and developmentally appropriate individualized nursing care on the interdisciplinary treatment plans.
  • Follows the direction of physicians by taking verbal orders.
  • Signs off on patient orders and transcribes medication administration sheet.
  • Dispenses PRN (as needed) medications as ordered by physicians and as requested by patients with an active order.
  • Identifies and reports to Charge RN any change in patients’ condition; the patient's signs, symptoms, and behaviors and any subsequent treatment and/or interventions and the patient's response to the treatments and documents same in the medical record according to hospital policy. Alerts physician to clinically pertinent findings in a timely manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental tasks of children and adolescents and adults.
  • Intervenes to effectively address patients’ physical/medical needs.
  • Intervenes early to prevent escalation of patient behavior; Uses effective verbal de-escalation skills/techniques as needed.
  • Appropriately consults with Charge Nurse as needed; Communicates pertinent clinical/administrative information to the Charge Nurse in a timely manner.
  • Thoroughly documents patient information, observations, changes in the patients’ condition and nursing care provided.Performs Nurse Observation Rounds as directed by the RN per policy; provides supervision and assistance to patients in all settings within the hospital.

Qualifications

One year certificate from college or technical school or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CPR and Handle With Care/Verbal De-escalation certification required and can be offered upon hire at the facility.

Must be licensed in good standing as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Arkansas.
