Responsibilities

Palo Verde Behavioral Health (PVBH) is an 84 bed private psychiatric facility providing inpatient and intensive outpatient psychiatric services through treatment programs tailored to our patients needs for the purpose of creating positive outcomes. PVBH will build on the excellent skills of our current Psychiatrists, licensed registered nurses, clinical social workers and licensed professional counselors to support these programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, coordination and monitoring of the Hospital’s Infection Prevention program. The Infection Prevention Coordinator collects all data and educates departments and employees of current infection Prevention procedures.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the State of Arizona and demonstrates an understanding of the principles of epidemiology, infectious diseases in the hospital and principles of learning.
  • BSN or Masters in Science in Public Health with Certification in Infection Prevention (“CIC”) by the Certification Board of Infection Prevention preferred.
  • Member of APIC preferred and/or continuing education work completed to obtain APIC Certification within 2 years of hire or equivalent certification through CIC.

Experience: 

  • Three (3) years as a Registered Nurse preferred.
  • Experience teaching staff and patient populations.
  • Experience with clinical infection Prevention practices and employee health required.

GENERAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Working conditions for all employees are as follows, but not limited to a psychiatric hospital setting; some risk involved in the event of aggressive patient(s); work load may include day, evening, night, weekend and/or holiday shifts. The Infection Prevention Coordinator is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and loud noise levels.

Mental demands described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, but are not limited to the ability to remain calm in a stressful environment; and the emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical requirements include, but are not limited to the ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families, staff and others; the ability to effectively utilize communication equipment; the physical agility to manage patients (ambulatory, non-ambulatory and physically aggressive); the ability to read (i.e. patient charts, written communication, regulations, written policies and procedures, etc.); and the ability to write (i.e. manual charting, written communication, etc.).

 Must occasionally utilize physical ability for standing, walking, repetitive finger motion, lifting/exerting force up to 25 lbs., reaching or stretching, climbing, crouching or stooping, creeping or crawling, tasting, and smelling.

Must frequently utilize physical ability for sitting, speaking, hearting, and seeing with correction for close and distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception and focusing ability. Speaking and hearing may be necessary for conversing with and assessing patients.

Mental demands include but are not limited to emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Telephone, computer, tape player, copier, fax machine, video/DVD player, small hand tools and writing instruments.
