Under the direction of the Medical Records Director, the Coder/Abstractor/Release of Information is responsible for the accurate coding and abstracting of information according to the current classification system. Following hospital, state, and federal rules on release of information, reviews requests for patient information and determines if release is valid.
Education: Medical coding certification and high school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: At least two (2) years experience in health care information management/medical records and a thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Licensure: Must have a valid driver’s license.
Additional Requirements: Typing speed of at least 40 wpm preferred. May be required to work occasional overtime and able to work flexible hours.
