Responsibilities

Granite Hills Hospital offers high-quality, patient centered behavioral health care for the greater Milwaukee community. Our 120-bed facility features evidence-based treatment for adolescents, adults, and older adults. 

We are looking for a Health Information Specialist to join our new team! 

The Health Information Specialist participates as an integral member of the records management team by ensuring the quality maintenance of patient information/medical records, within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and TJC standards for the quality of patient care. Provides technical support and subject matter guidance for Behavioral Health HIM processes. Provides UHS with cost effective and innovative HIM services that meet all regulatory and compliance requirements. Assists the Director of HIM/Medical Records in the strategic planning and coordination of HIM activities. Reviews key indicators with the Director of HIM/Medical Records to identify and resolve issues that are affecting operations. Provides operational analysis to implement efficiencies, best practice and improvement in the organizations. Interacts with the various departments that are impacted by the operation of HIM. Provides training and education as required on systems, policies and procedures, and compliance. Assists with monitoring compliance with UHS.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma required. Associates degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or related field preferred but not required.

Experience: At least one (1) to 3 years’ inpatient/outpatient coding and healthcare management/medical records experience preferred. At least 1 year of behavioral health hospital preferred but not required. Must possess extensive knowledge of Health Information Management systems and operations. This includes experience with various HIM tools including encoders, compliance software, deficiency tracking software and transcription.

Licensure: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC preferred and/or other coder specialist certifications preferred but not required. Ability to obtain RHIT or AHIMA certification within two years of hire is preferred.
