Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Position Description:

Provides patient care by scrubbing general and heart surgical cases. Assists with and provides appropriate supplies and equipment. Performs a variety of non-nursing functions.

• Actively participates in Universal Protocol and 'Time out'.
• Adheres to principles of asepsis.
• Maintains a sterile field.
• Provides appropriate and properly functioning equipment and supplies.
• Prioritizes room set-up.
• Counts on all surgical procedures in accordance with policy.
• Ensures compliance with sterilization processes.
• Demonstrates care, handling, cleaning, and processing of endoscopes.
• Demonstrates knowledge of endoscopic, pacemakers implantation, orthopedic, urological, gynecological, ophthalmology, ENT, plastic, general surgery, & vascular procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in operating transport equipment (stretchers, beds, oxygen takes, etc.)
• Adheres to laser safety measures and standard precautions.
• Identifies, transfers and labels all solutions/medications on the surgical field, but does not administer mediations.
• Follows and updates the surgeon preference card.
• Demonstrates knowledge of cardio-thoracic procedures and an understanding of basic Anatomy & Physiology in conjunction with cardio-thoracic procedures.
• Demonstrates an understanding of cardio-thoracic supplies/instruments and equipment necessary for all cardio-thoracic procedures.
• Facilitates inventory on weekly basis to ensure necessary supplies are available for scheduled and emergent procedures.
• Maintains certification and/or education as mandated by South Carolina law.
• Complete all hospital and department assigned education
• Prepares and cuts suture material
• Holds retractors as directed by surgeon
• Sponging or suctioning operative site

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

Satisfactory completion of OR Technician course or on the job training for at least one year.

One year hospital experience preferred.

ORT certification required as of January 2008; obtains 15 CEU’s annually. CPR certification & NRP certification
