The Peer Specialist is an active member of the Extended Acute Care team, and provides peer support services to patients. The Peer Specialist will act as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support. The goal is helping patients to regain independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED plus 12 college credits. Certified by completion of the 10 day Certified Peer Specialist Program. Knowledge of the Recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using basic problem solving strategies to support individual patients in self-directed recovery. Minimum of three (3) years of experience.

Additional Requirements: Must possess good verbal and written communication skills. Successful completion of CPR/AED training and successful completion of Crisis Prevention (CPI) training including verbal de-escalation and appropriate use of seclusion and restraint.
