UF Health Shands Hospital is Hiring an Oncology Nurse Navigator, Breast Cancer Program Near Gainesville, FL

Job Opening Summary

Serves as oncology patient navigator for a specific disease site. Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team of physicians, allied health providers and administrative support staff to create and implement quality metrics for oncology patients. Organizes and facilitates multidisciplinary tumor conferences and clinics within the organ site group to assure case materials are assembled, patients scheduled and appropriate patient follow-up occurs. Assures UF Health diagnostic imaging and pathology services are coordinated to deliver diagnostic information to conferences and clinics.
Collaborates with other members of the patient navigator service, including administrative support staff, to ensure coverage of all patient care needs. Participates in community outreach and education regarding assigned tumor groups and support physicians. Serves as a liaison between internal/referring physicians, other members of the care team and to patients, assuring that patients' emotional and support needs are addressed and appropriate clinical and administrative information is communicated to patients in a timely manner. Assure seamless transition of patients through the care process across the multiple departments of the UF Health system.
Assists in identifying and recruiting potentially eligible patients into relevant clinical trials and other programs aimed to reduce health care disparities and improve patient outcomes.
Incumbent is accountable to the Associate Director for Medical Affairs at the UF Health Cancer Center relative to clinical performance, integration with other members of the navigator service and strategic direction.
Collaborates with oncology physician leaders by representing radiation oncology, medical oncology, general surgery and other specialists. Generally, one physician will serve as primary liaison for organization and operation of tumor conferences and multidisciplinary clinics. These physician leaders provide input for performance evaluation.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • RN license required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of hospital clinical experience.
  • Oncology patient experience preferred.
  • Prefer knowledge in medical, surgical and radiation oncology; interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory data; and clinical management of patients.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

  • Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Current RN license in the state of Florida required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • OCN strongly preferred.
