UCLA is Hiring a Human Resources and Payroll Analyst Near Los Angeles, CA

The Human Resources and Payroll Analyst for the School of Dentistry is responsible for the full range of bi-weekly and monthly payroll activities for approximately 300 employees. Analyzes, researches, evaluates and resolves issues in the areas of employment, employee relations and compensation, exercising independent judgment and a high degree of political acumen. This includes working with management on issues pertaining to employee discipline, dismissals and grievances. Performs technical and analytical activities related to the administration of: the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA); UCLA Workers' Compensation Program; and employee recruitment, while ensuring adherence to and compliance with Departmental and University policies, procedures and guidelines. Conducts research and/or data analysis in support of School projects, initiatives and decision making. Responsible for: the on-boarding of new hires; maintaining School-specific databases; and managing/coordinating badge issuance and annual parking processes for new and continuing members of the School's community.

Required/Preferred
Demonstrated working knowledge of UCPath, UCPath TRS, COGNOS CDW, PeopleAdmin System, Online Financial System Reports (OFSR), LMS, and Financial Aid and Scholarships websites.

Demonstrated ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply established personnel principles, policies and practices.

Demonstrated mathematical skills to accurately calculate salaries, vacation and sick leave accruals, retroactive payments and other payroll transactions.

Demonstrated skill in organizing and coordinating multiple projects and assignments and establishing or adjusting priorities to accurately reflect the importance of the job and to meet campus and departmental deadlines, following through on assignments when faced with conflicting workplace demands.

Demonstrated knowledge of human resource practices, policies and procedures in a complex organization in the areas of employment, compensation, benefits, workers' compensation, employee relations, etc.

Demonstrated working knowledge of UCLA payroll/personnel procedures.
Preferred
Demonstrated working knowledge of UC staff personnel policies and procedures including use of appropriate forms.

Demonstrated experience in performing standard payroll operations, including auditing time, computing and preparing payrolls, reconciling errors, and maintaining required documentation.

Demonstrated working knowledge of all policies related to vacation and sick leave, compensatory time, holiday pay, shift differential and overtime for the purpose of managing an accurate system of time reporting.

Demonstrated working knowledge of various types of payments, such as premium overtime, straight overtime, and evening/weekend shift differential.

Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Office.

Demonstrated skill in maintaining a congenial, helpful attitude when faced with difficult situations and to respond with tact and sensitivity in electronic and in-person communications.

Excellent oral communication skills to convey and/or solicit information and to effectively and persuasively articulate and explain policies, procedures and expectations to faculty, staff, students and other departments.

Demonstrated skill in working in a fast paced, high volume office and ability to work under the pressure of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.

Demonstrated skill in understanding/identifying information of a confidential and sensitive nature, and the ability and experience to keep such information confidential.

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of federal and state employment laws, bargaining units and contracts, I-9 certification requirements and Glacier.

Knowledge of applicable federal law and campus policies for FMLA/CFRA, PDL and Workers' Compensation to provide direction to School administration, faculty and staff.

Skill in writing concise, accurate, understandable, and grammatically correct analytical reports, policy and procedure documentation, and correspondence addressing sensitive, complex and broad ranging issues in a University and business setting.
