What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graphic Designer position at UCLA?
Reporting to the Director of Registration and Collections Management, the Graphic Designer will develop exhibition identities and style guides, and produce and install exhibition info-graphics and didactic materials for 8 to 10 exhibitions per year. The incumbent will work collaboratively with contract exhibition designers.
The designer may produce exhibition prints for up to four photography exhibitions per year, often working closely with artists and curators to produce match prints and determine presentation solutions and to coordinate framing. The Graphic Designer must be flexible and open to feedback and produce quality work under the pressures of deadlines and competing priorities. Additionally, the Graphic Designer may be requested to perform and coordinate press checks and work closely with outside vendors to produce additional exhibition graphics.
The incumbent will also assist as needed with the preparation and installation of all exhibitions. The incumbent will also support clients from other Fowler Museum departments including Communications, Education, Exhibition Project Management, Digital Media, Development, and others to design newsletters, invitations, web graphics, brochures, banners, and other online and print media.

1. Demonstrated skill in graphic design.

2. Advanced use of Macintosh computer systems.

3. Skill in the production of exhibitions graphics. This includes cut-vinyl graphics, illustration, large-scale output systems, and mounting.

4. Working knowledge of Macintosh/PostScript systems and related desktop publishing and imaging hardware and software, including extensive experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

5. Knowledge of graphic design principles and formats: Ability to identify, set and articulate design standards; knowledge of typography and effective use of type; working knowledge of paper stocks, inks, varnishes, and theirsuitability for each project.
