Reporting jointly to the Inaugural Dean of The Herb Alpert School of Music and the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Professional Schools Development, the Executive Director of Development will oversee the entire range of development for the school. This individual will establish long-range goals and objectives for the development programs and activities that reflect funding priorities of the school. The Executive Director will design and implement a comprehensive and integrated development program for the school, addressing its specific needs and academic priorities.
In conjunction with the Inaugural Dean and Assistant Vice Chancellor, Professional Schools Development, the Executive Director will maintain progress in meeting proposed annual fundraising goals, priorities, planning and strategy. This individual will plan, manage and direct efforts of the school to attract private support from individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations. The Executive Director will lead activities in the areas of special events, alumni relations, volunteer and board management. The Executive Director will oversee activities for the school's alumni relations efforts, be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic events, programs and initiatives designed to achieve the school's goals and will represent the Dean, the school, and UCLA to donors and to the wider community across a range of public settings.

Required/Preferred
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of development in a major research university with a minimum of seven years of progressive responsibility and experience in the profession or similar professional experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer driven or other related environment.

2. Excellent donor, alumni relations or similar constituent based-relationship skills with superior working knowledge of the principles and practices of university development and alumni relations.

3. Progressively responsible experience in the design, implementation and management of complex development or comparable programs to include developing sophisticated strategies for successful cultivation and solicitation of annual and major gifts or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

4. Strong communication skills to express, both verbally and in writing, the mission of the University and the fund-raising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to The Herb Alpert School of Music.

5. Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with the Dean, faculty, and administration; central development; major donor prospects; and volunteers.

6. Effective and compelling verbal communication skills to make persuasive oral presentations to senior management and internal and external constituencies, and to conduct participatory meetings, gain acceptance of decisions, and to advise and collaborate with others.

8. Strong analytical and organizational skills to develop creative, credible solutions, recommendations and programs as well to define and implement special development or alumni relations projects.
