The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI’s brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solution providers—striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. Working closely with campus financial management, the UCI Controller’s Office is a trusted strategic partner divided into three core teams: Accounting & Fiscal Services, Procurement Services, and Financial Services. The Accounting & Fiscal Services team ensures the integrity of UCI's financial reporting, enables effective and efficient campus financial processes and controls, manages contracts and grants funding at the post-award stage, and champions compliance with policies, laws, and regulations. The Procurement Services team leads through best practices in the acquisition of quality goods and services by implementing processes and procedures that deliver high quality expertise, significant value, and excellent customer service. Finally, the Financial Services team provides support and resources to campus in the areas of billing, collections, payments, disbursements, loan administration, and student tax information. In all these areas, the Controller’s Office is always dedicated to providing effective and efficient customer service in support of UCI’s mission and goals.

Under the general direction of the Director of General Accounting, the Accounting Manager serves as a critical member of the management team. The Accounting Manager receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet those goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff, UCI and UC Office of the President Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provides priority setting and worflow analysis. Responsible for General Accounting operations and Chart of Accounts management and maintenance. Interacts with the University of California Office of the President’s various departments relating to general accounting policies, procedures, and transactions.

Bachelor's degree in related area

Strong interpersonal skills; service orientation skills; ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high volume environment; sound judgment and decision-making skills; and reasoning ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to research, develop, and coordinate various special projects. Solid knowledge of common desktop / web applications Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and consensus-building skills including setting goals and objectives, delegating authority, etc. Strong knowledge of electronic spreadsheet and proven experience in complex spreadsheet development. Ability to work under demanding deadlines and to set priorities under conflicting deadlines Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Strong knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, e.g., GAAP, GASB and SAS. Demonstrated skill in problem solving through data gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of human resources including providing feedback, counseling, coaching, employee relations and conducting performance evaluations Solid knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Master of Business administration (MBA) degree or Master’s in Accounting - preferred

California licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - preferred

Solid knowledge of common desktop / web applications. Sound knowledge of UC policies and procedures. Experience working in a regulated environment with limited resources. Working knowledge of UCI financial systems, UCOP financial systems and subsystems Knowledge of Fund Accounting. Experience working in a complex multi-location environment

May be required to work outside of regularly scheduled shift. Must be able to work overtime, as needed, to meet deadlines. Must comply with UC vaccine policy Ability to work in a hybrid remote/on-site/temporary work environment Must pass a background check.
