Description

The Part-Time Laboratory Assistant, American Sign Language is a part-time position responsible to the Department Chair, Sign Language Interpreting. The primary function of this position is to mentor and assist American Sign Language (ASL) and Interpreting students in language learning, conversational skills and language skill mastery.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Tutor ASL students one-on-one or in small groups, in an immersion setting, on assignments and skills designated by the student's instructors, or on skills and tasks identified by the student(s) as problematic
  • Ability to mentor ASL students regarding the cultural and social norms of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
  • Support the technological needs of students using lab equipment
  • Maintain the ASL lab and materials
  • Attend training, as required
  • Support staff and faculty members as assigned
  • Perform related duties as assigned

  • Ability to work flexible hours when the lab is open as well as occasional evenings and weekends for special events and / or projects
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Qualifications

    Required Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • American Sign Language fluency

  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Will have contact - in person, by email, or by phone - with staff, students, and the general public

    RETIREMENT

    Part-Time Retirement

    Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.
