The Behavioral Health Counselor is a counseling professional who provides treatment and support to assist patients in their recovery from addictions such as: alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, and other behavioral problems; assists with modifying problem behaviors.

Ability to work with the community, public speaking skills and efficiency with paperwork and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conducts individual counseling sessions, as scheduled and documents as required;
• Conducts group and/or family sessions, as scheduled and document as required;
• Facilitate assigned group or family sessions;
• Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow up assessment for patients.
• Prepares individual treatment plan for each assigned patient;
• Ensures all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents are completed timely and in a clear, concise manner;
• May act as a liaison between referral sources and patient;
• Provides crisis intervention to patients, as needed;
• Plan for aftercare for assigned patient’s;
• Provide case management duties for patient’s, ensuring individualized quality care.
• Evaluates patient’s needs and determines if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed;
• Serve as a presenter in the implementation of the program specific curriculum;
• Maintain working relationship with community agencies and programs to insure adequate case management;
• May assist in the training of new clinical staff and interns; and,
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must have the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be patient in dealing with an elderly population and sensitive to hearing and/or vision deficiencies. Requires proven professionalism and the ability to deal effectively with patients, families, caregivers and a variety of internal and external resources

Licenses/Certifications:

• Current State License as a Licensed Professional Counselor. (No LPC-I applicants at this time)
• LCDC license (added value)
