TITLE: Behavioral Health Clinician

LOCATION: Position works jointly in Thornton and Centennial CO with 17th and 18th Judicial Districts Colorado Youth Detention Continuum (CYDC)

STATUS: Full Time, Exempt, Health and Welfare Benefits Eligible

SALARY RANGE: $65,000-$85,000 DOQ

WHAT WE DO:

We are committed to assisting, advocating for and supporting families through the Judicial process by assessing, supervising, and connecting to ongoing services in order to provide an alternative to detention which will ultimately reduce recidivism and long-term involvement in the juvenile justice system.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) position is a partnership between the 17th and 18th Colorado Youth Detention Continuum Programs, and serves juvenile justice involved youth and families. The BHC provides short-term, data informed, clinical assessment, treatment, and connection to long-term sustainable resources and services. The BHC works alongside the Pre-Trial Case Managers and provide services at the program sites and in the communities in which we serve including detention facilities, schools, and family homes. The position will require some work outside traditional business hours to accommodate youth and families.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the joint supervision of the 17th and 18th JD CYDC Coordinators. Assignments originate from the 17th and 18th Judicial District Case Managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Complete mental health/Substance use assessments and coordinate mental health and substance use services to ensure the successful transition of clients and their families to community-based resources.
  • Utilize an array of interventions to provide short-term counseling services to clients exhibiting a wide array of behaviors.
  • Develop resource linkage plans in collaboration with Pre-Trial Case Managers.
  • Provide consultation, referrals, and resources for Pre-Trial Case Managers.
  • Collaborate and maintain consistent communication with the youth, parents/guardians, Pre-Trial Case Managers, and key partners such as Courts, Guardian Ad Litems and Department of Human Services to develop accurate assessments and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, court hearings, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, Family Team Meetings, and all other client-related meetings as deemed necessary.
  • Complete all clinical and clerical documentation (assessments, treatment plans, court reports, mental health notes, etc.) accurately, thoroughly and in accordance with paperwork protocol and timeline expectations.
  • Identify areas for growth within the programs, including training in evidence-based practices, and collaborate with supervisors and CYDC team members to address these needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree required from an accredited college or university with a preferred degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, or closely related field desired.
  • LCSW, LAC, LMFT or LPC License PREFERRED; or ability to acquire license within one year of hire REQUIRED
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish desired.
  • Experience with the juvenile justice system and at-risk youth preferred.
  • Possess knowledge of juvenile justice system, human services system, CYDC and various juvenile program resources and services within the judicial district.
  • Possess knowledge of service referrals and case management practices
  • Be skilled in writing and speaking.
  • Be skilled in time management.
  • Be skilled in organization and paying attention to detail.
  • Must be skilled in basic computer processes and keyboarding.
  • Can interpret and translate facts and information.
  • Can interact with others to clarify intent, explain rationale, advise others of appropriate or desired course of action, or secure information.
  • Can work with diverse populations and employ culturally sensitive practices.
  • Can maintain a professional standard of performance, demeanor, and appearance at all times.
  • Can work collaboratively with various human service and law enforcement agencies.

  • Must be able to pass criminal background check- including CBI, FBI, and TRAILS
  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident or incident reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license and up-to-date vehicle insurance

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The job is performed both in a standard office environment and within the community. Employee will work in both the 17th JD CYDC in Thornton and 18th JD CYDC in Centennial offices, communities, detention facilities and may attend court proceedings. Employee may work outside normal business hours as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
