To accelerate this momentum, we are looking for new talents who will join us in strengthening the business with a data-driven approach. As a result, the Technology department at our office in Amsterdam is now looking for a Data Engineer.

The challenge

To face the everyday challenges of an online global player such as Travix, we need a world league development team that helps us build a solid technical foundation that will support our ambitious recovery and growth plans. We are actively applying the Scrum framework and expect our tech leads to take a leading role in working with their teams to get enhancements delivered to the business. 

At Travix we continuously enhance, re-factor and in some cases rebuild applications to be able to handle more brands and countries, to improve the user experience and to optimise business processes. These applications generate large amounts of data that we collect and store to make informed decisions and develop data-driven products. To increase the efficiency and adoption of the data stack within the organisation we need your expert opinion in helping us drive the teams towards delivering more business value. Our goal is to democratise data and to further increase self-service of data collection and analytics within all areas of our organisation.

We are an open organization where your opinion is valued, so be prepared for open discussions, wild ideas and most of all fun! We are looking for a data engineer who’s comfortable working on data lake and/or data warehouse architectures, has experience in batch and streaming data collection and processing, as well as knowledge of modelling data for analytics and complex querying. We are adding more applications and tools to our data stack, so we expect knowledge on application and library development. 

We also expect that you are familiar with data quality & governance principles and techniques to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data.

In the data stack at Travix we use the following technologies: Python, Java, Airflow, Apache Beam (Google Dataflow), BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Protocol Buffer, Avro, Parquet, Kubernetes. For Data Governance at Travix we use Monte Carlo and for self-service analytics we have Looker. 

As a Data Engineer, you will work as part of a scrum team to build products and services on Travix's technology platform. You’re familiar with best practices around reliable data pipelines (both batch and streaming), data modeling techniques and software engineering. You enjoy working in an environment that will encourage creative thinking and an environment of innovation

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing effective database structures to ensure data is organised effectively and ready for downstream development of data science and analytics.
  • To collaborate effectively with other members of the data team, including data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders, and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Nurturing and encouraging creativity, as Travix offers a huge amount of freedom from a technology and ownership stand-point.
  • Help maintain our analytics infrastructure that enables self-service analytics, using optimized data pipelines.

This position comes with the autonomy to introduce your own ideas and creativity to build a strong and solid technical environment. 

What you bring to the table

We are looking for people with a flexible and results-oriented mentality, who love to develop new things, and are enthusiastic about their area of expertise! 

We think it’s important you have: 

  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, Scala, SQL, and Bash. 
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, including ETL (extract, transform, load) processes, data modeling, and schema design.
  • Experience on data formats like Protocol Buffer, Avro, Parquet.
  • Experience working on either (AWS/GCP/Azure) cloud environment.
  • You know your way around distributed computing, distributed storage and containerization.
  • Experience with tools like Airflow, PubSub, Beam, SQL, NoSQL, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles and techniques.
