Summary:
The Director of Procurement will be responsible for working with the Chief Supply Chain Officer to develop a sourcing strategy to support the company's strategic plan and sustainability goals. This role will also be responsible for providing leadership in the execution of Traditional Medicinals™ sourcing strategy, vendor management, and day-to-day execution of purchasing-related transactions on a global basis. The Director of Procurement will lead their teams to ensure the company secures the ingredients (approximately 120 different ingredients from over 40 countries), packaging, services, and goods at the best possible price and quality to support the business's operational needs. This will involve sourcing within complex supply chains for botanical raw materials with volatile supply patterns from domestic and international suppliers and basic replenishment items.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop a best-in-class Procurement team to source ingredients and packaging for a growing range of products.
- Maintain and improve long-standing relationships with key supply chain partners and develop new strategic supplier relationships where appropriate and needed.
- Negotiate all vendor contracts and manage the ongoing contractual agreements with Traditional Medicinals' raw material suppliers.
- Work cross-functionally to identify, qualify, and onboard new botanical suppliers into the TM supply network.
- In coordination with other functional partners within Supply Chain, assure that TM, and its co-manufacturing partners, are sufficiently supplied with the right ingredients and materials for scheduled production.
- Act as the departmental liaison in collaboration with other functional leaders on critical projects and company initiatives.
- Develop and execute a long-term sourcing and vendor relations strategy that supports the fast-paced growth of the overall organization and aligns with the organization's sustainability initiatives.
- Simplify purchasing processes to align with manufacturing needs and reduce lead times for all raw material inputs.
- Champion equitable and fair trading (e.g., fair-for-life commitment)
- Avoid stock-outs, especially as they pertain to botanical ingredients.
- Maximize value without sacrificing quality or availability.
- Manage an annual spend of approximately $50M.
- Design, develop, and monitor departmental processes to ensure top-level performance in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implement appropriate continuous improvement activities.
- Provide timely and regular purchasing communications with key internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ten to fifteen years of the overall experience, the majority of which involves directly managing the daily activities of a purchasing function. Preferably in the pharmaceutical, supplements, or health and natural food industries.
- Rich experience in sourcing and procuring highly volatile agricultural ingredients and replenishing items for use in food or pharma production.
- Demonstrated ability to build an effective organization in terms of both people and processes in a high-growth environment.
- Global/international sourcing experience.
- Ideally, this person will be coachable and promotable and have an eye toward both strategy and execution to prepare for vertical or horizontal opportunities in the future.
- Proven ability to help scale a business by developing dynamic procurement, purchasing, and strategic sourcing practices.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and lead in a high-growth environment while managing ambiguity.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and deploy industry best practice processes for the function.
- Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in Purchasing from strategy through implementation.
- Experience as the system owner of the purchasing modules in an ERP/MRP, preferable Microsoft Dynamics AX, with an understanding of how to best apply the tools for sound decision-making.
- Experience in creating and developing a high-performance culture.
- Previously managed a team of > 5 direct reports.
- A strong background in dealing with an array of complex ingredients.
- Working knowledge of international commerce is preferred.
Education:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field (business, supply chain, engineering). MBA preferred.

Travel
- Ability to travel up to 35%, both domestically and internationally.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to move around and work in a manufacturing environment, including but not limited to: the ability to sit, stand for two or more hours at a time, the ability to operate a computer and office equipment and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds throughout the day.
