PART-TIME SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR

General Statement of Duties

Plans, coordinates, markets, and executes recreation events and programs that are diverse in nature and target all age and ethnic groups under the supervision of the Recreation Specialist - Special Events.

Distinguishing Features of the Class/Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Assists with existing events including but not limited to Concerts in the Park, Family Movie Nights, Fireworks Spectacular, Halloween Boo Bash, Easter Egg Hunt, Brunch with Santa, etc.
  • Performs various tasks related to the set up and breakdown for special events.
  • Researches and secures necessary resources to improve the quality of the events
  • Review food vendor applications for special events as well as food and non food vendor applications for park rentals
  • Responds in a timely manner to feedback, questions, and concerns regarding special events
  • Creates an inclusive environment by acknowledging differences and limitations of all participant
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with a variety of groups to include town staff, chamber of commerce, schools, civic groups, churches, businesses, arts councils, and the like.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of supplies for programs and events including outreach needs.
  • Performs administrative and planning duties related to special events.
  • Ability to work varying hours contingent upon event, program, and activity demands, including weekdays, night and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of special events
  • Ability to operate office equipment, computers, and standard software packages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to prepare written documents with the proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech
  • Well organized, detail oriented, creative, and self-motivated
  • Strong record keeping and reporting skills
  • Ability to work successfully in a team-oriented atmosphere that provides citizens and employees with accurate information
  • Considerable ability to work well with a diverse population.
  • Ability to plan, multitask, and manage time.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Education/Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with considerable experience in special event planning or recreational programming.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

If you are offered a conditional offer of employment you will need to successfully meet all of the following conditions to be hired:

  • Completion of the substance abuse testing required by the Town. Be advised that you have 48 hours after accepting our conditional offer to report for the drug screen.
  • Completion of a Background Screening.
  • COVID-19 vaccination by the first day of work (we will accommodate those who cannot receive the vaccine for disability or religious based reasons). You must have at least one dose before your first day of work. If you are subject to getting a second dose it must be received in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. Vaccination cards are to only be shared with Human Resources staff.
