SALARY RANGE: $21.63- $26.14/ hr. DOQ

Position Summary: 

The Accounting Clerk will collect, enter, organize, and file information as directed. Assist with general accounting tasks as assigned by management or a designee.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Function in accordance with established standards, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements.
  • Accurately prepare and maintain accounting documents and records.
  • Responsible for retrieving, assembling, counting, verifying, delivering, acquiring proper proof, and safely storing deposits.
  • Submit accounting information through payroll system.
  • Maintain copies of correspondence necessary for files.
  • Perform audits applicable to accounting procedures.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of petty cash, such as tracking, distribution, receipts, and proper documentation.
  • Assist Finance Team with entering invoices and vendors into accounting software.
  • Import information into correct accounting software.
  • Complete determined spreadsheets monthly.
  • Research, track and restore accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
  • Reconciling and reporting any discrepancies found in records.
  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the finance department.
  • Assist the Finance team with any filing of financial records and any other requests.
  • Performs related work as required.

Education/Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred in combination with three (3) years of accounting, accounts payable, or similar field.
  • Competency in MS office and accounting software programs.
  • Data entry, and financial reporting experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, and sit for extended periods. Occasional bending and stooping, squatting, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, reaching, upward and downward flexion of neck, side-to-side turning of neck.

The employee must have good vision that allows the viewing of computer screens and numbers and reading reports and printouts for analytical purposes for extended time periods. Requires manual dexterity in combination with eye-hand coordination for efficient keyboard input, data entry and filing.

Requires the ability to occasionally operate a motor vehicle to visit town departments located outside of Town Hall and banks. Occasionally must be able to lift up to 15 pounds. 

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office setting with one primary location. This position is not a remote or hybrid position. This is an in-person position requiring regular attendance at the primary location. Working environment may involve use of communication through computer and telephone and could involve frequent interruptions.
